This Week’s Learning Focus:
Reading: We will continue to meet in guided reading groups. As a whole class, we will continue learning about story elements. We are focusing on characters this week. Ask you child about the protagonist’s attributes and traits. A skeleton project will be coming home as homework on Monday. This assignment is due on Oct. 26th.

Writing: We are analyzing Owl Moon by Jane Yolen to identify how she creates emotion for her readers. We are then trying to create intentions for our stories and use craft moves like Jane Yolen.

Spelling: With it being a short week, there is not a new sort coming home. Your child may work on his/her No Excuse Words, but because of the skeleton project, spelling is not a homework assignment.

Math: We will continue to learn subtraction strategies.

Science: The class is planting grass seeds! Be sure to ask them about the planting process.

Upcoming Reminders:
*The last day of skating is Monday, Oct. 24th. We will begin our swimming unit on Tuesday, Oct. 25th. The children will need a swimming suit, towel, and goggles sent to school in a separate bag. A brush and hair ties are optional.

*Halloween costume day is 10/31- Parents are invited to Anderson Gym to enjoy the costume parade. Classroom parties will follow the parade (more information to come).
